Chambers and Partners are looking for an experienced copy editor to join their expanding Global Practice Guide publishing team which produce numerous cross-border legal reference guides for the professional market.

The copy editor will report into one of our deputy editors and managing editor, they will edit externally authored legal content before publication consistently and in line with Chambers and Partners house style; to ensure that copy is clear, correct and concise and accessible to a wide-range of readers.

They will work with other members of the publishing team such as the Publishing Coordinator/s, to gather their assigned articles for edit, agree deadlines and chase approvals of their work in line with the front list plan.

They will be proactive in highlighting delays to publishing, helping to shape more effective working practices within the editorial function and bring these developments into best practice. Where required, they will help train and onboard external (freelance) and/or new copy editors.

Experience in legal editing is a plus, as well as experience with SEO and digital publishing practices.

The role would suit a self-starter and someone who enjoys and is appropriately set up to work from home 3 days per week.
  • Editing content (the majority of which is written by foreign legal experts) in accordance with house style and tone and with Chambers & Partners writing principles (training provided)
  • Training new starters and outsourced freelancers on Chambers and Partners house style
  • Input into improvements of editorial guidance on writing
  • Liaising with authors/editors on contributed content
  • Where required, proof-read and check materials meet the necessary guidelines and are prepared properly for publishing on our online platforms.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Good project management and prioritisation skills: must be able to organise and manage own work load and prioritise effectively where necessary.
  • Good academic record (at least 2.1).
  • Previous experience of working in an editorial role, particularly legal context is a plus
  • Undergraduate degree in Law or other degree
  • Experience in a legal setting (law firm, regulatory body)
  • Knowledge of HTML, and CMS
